Hey guys! I'm just finally starting to get into DND and I'm curious if there are
any other blind players out there. Eventually I will be playing with people
around a table so I'm not looking for a DND game or software like that...I am,
however, wondering what people have done for the creation and tracking of
character sheets? I'm also looking for a good dice roller for the mac; I found
one for my iPhone, but I'm not sure if it will be practical to use it or not. Also,
any general tips for playing while blind would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!
Dan

I don't play, but a few friends of mine do and I may join them in the forseeable future. These questions are ones I'd like an anwer to as well.

Hello!

I play Pathfinder, which is a lot like D&D. As a template for my character sheets, I use the pregenerated characters, downloaded from paizo.com. I also have the pdf version of the core rulebook (Player's handbook in D&D). I bring my netbook to the table. It has my characters, rulebook, cheat sheets, and a little inventory scratch file where I keep track of hitpoints, cash, spells, etc. For dice rolling, I just use 'regular dice'; since all rolls are public, in pathfinder, the GM just tells me what I rolled. When GM rolls an attack against me, I consult my character sheet for the appropriate stat(s), and tell her/him whether it's a hit.

At the end of the game, GM hands out 'Chronicle sheets', detailing what the party earned and achieved. GM tells me my share of the gold, which I write into my character sheet's inventory section. My husband reads me the rest, when I get home. I adjust other things as needed, before the next game in which I'm going to play that character.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Sometimes PDF files are a bit of a pain to work with. I work mostly with text and word documents for books and character sheets. I am actually a rather active dungeon master, running a game a week on teamspeak, sometimes two. And I play in a few others. We keep text file or word doc character sheets, and rolz.org to roll dice on a platform where everyone else can see it.

I use pdftotxt to convert the rulebooks and pregens. Unfortunately, the chronicle sheets are paper and, sometimes, scanned as pdfs containing a pic of the sheet. My characters and scratch files are simple text. If gm wants to audit my sheet, I email it.
